Osan AB was exactly like I thought it would be and nothing like I thought it would be all at the same time. I had months of anxiety and panic attacks leading up to our move but my first weekend here I couldn’t understand why I stressed out. Yes you’re in a foreign country but it doesn’t FEEL like it. You can’t read any of the signs but hey, they still have food delivery! The summers are hot and humid and the winters are cold so be sure to pack accordingly.
Right outside of the main gate for base is the Songtan Entertainment District or SED where most shops, bars, restaurants, and cafes are located.

My all time favorite thing about living in South Korea is the kindness of strangers. You do not need to speak the same language to know that someone is being welcoming and warm. It’s impossible to count the amount of times a kind stranger has offered my children a snack and a pat on the head. Children are treasured here in such a heartwarming way.
Most squadrons or units have a private page for members and families to connect as well.
Things to know about Osan Air Force Base
The food here is absolutely amazing. Korean Street Food is an entire culture in itself and if I were to come back as a food in another life I’d want to be a yakkimandu. Kamsahamnida (thank you) goes a long way and you do not need to read or speak the language to communicate with locals. Everyone is so friendly here and they welcome you in with open arms!

I love exploring the street markets and how easily accessible they are. I can always find a new batch of fresh, beautiful produce to bring home. We’ve fully embraced the love of hiking and have made many family memories on the trails. It can be easy to get overwhelmed by the amount of traffic and people but if you just step into the flow and embrace the difference, we have found South Korea to be a vibrant, charming place to explore.
