Welcome to Fort Novosel, formally known as Fort Rucker! When we were planning our move, the only thing I heard about Fort Novosel was that it was empty, and the sole advantage was that it was close to the beach. Let me start with setting the record straight: there’s a reason why so many people come to Fort Novosel and decide to stay. Within days of moving to the area, I instantly fell in love with the small town feeling that Fort Novosel brought me. Coming from Kansas City and Northwest Arkansas, living in a smaller town has allowed me to slow down in life and enjoy each moment. Is there a target 5 minutes away? No, but now I go to Main St. and shop at a local store filled with more unique and charming items. The faces are friendlier, the air is warmer, and there is always an event going on.

Fort Novosel is nestled between the cities of Enterprise and Daleville, Alabama. My husband and I chose to live in Enterprise due to the location for both my job and the base. Enterprise is the larger city that is associated with Fort Novosel. With Enterprise, be prepared to see all things boll weevil, as soon as you enter the city. For those who are unaware, a boll weevil is a cotton-eating insect. Back in the early 1900s, the town of Enterprise lost all of its cotton due to these insects; nevertheless, a miracle occurred, and the community was able to transition to peanut production, which allowed the city to thrive. Around town you will find various boll weevil statues (20+ to be exact) with fun colors and costumes. These statues are located out of business, such as McDonalds, all the way to the city’s Farmer Market, funeral home, and cigar shop. A fun way to make the move to Fort Novosel exciting, is to attempt to take a photo with every boll weevil statue around town. This is a perfect opportunity for you to get out into the community and have a fun collection of photos to look back on when you move away. A friend of mine had an awesome idea of turning their photos into a coffee table book. The picture attached was our very first boll weevil photo!

Things to know about Fort Novosel

Since moving to Fort Novosel, I have developed a newfound love for southern food and quaint towns. The weather is consistently warm and the community is close-knit. We will always hold a special place in our hearts for the boll weevil.

Since moving, I have loved the slower pace of life. It has been nice to just enjoy quality time with friend and family. Good southern bbq, sweet tea, boutiques, SEC travel-I love it all!
