WAFs! It is that time of year again. Summer is winding down (why so soon?!) + as we begin to look towards fall, that means that it’s time for Air Force Balls! Kirst + I have previously shared that one of the driving factors behind us starting Wives of the Air Force was because we are planners + researchers + we were not able to find anything online that was helpful or relatable to the lives we wanted to lead as WAFs. Researching “What to wear to an Air Force Ball”…well that checked with the rest of our frustrations. We have been so excited for this post ever since we began + it is finalllyyyyy here!:)

So now that y’all have some background, I just have to say that there are no true hard fast rules. Honestly if there were…someone would still break them😂 Kirst + I tend to be HUGE rule followers (or “dweebs” as our husbands like to say…) + so we always put tighter restrictions on ourselves. But before we went to our first AF Ball, we read that we essentially needed to be dressed as nuns so that we would be appropriate. What do we say now? Just be classy. Is there anything wrong with a little leg? NO. What about a deep v? NO. Y’all, we are grown women who make our own big life decisions. You are capable of deciding what is appropriate dress to wear to essentially what is a work event for your husband/massive party 😉

There are SO many options when it comes to finding a dress. While shopping for dresses is a lot of fun for us, these balls happen every year so we do not recommend spending your life savings on a dress. That bridesmaids dress that you never thought you could wear again? Yes ma’am! This is a great excuse to upcycle an old gown. Borrowing from other WAFs is also another great way to keep this event affordable. Also, as many of y’all know, you don’t always know for sure that you will be able to make it to this event so having options is KEY. As for purchasing a dress, we obviously love Lulus- they have a dress for everyone! All the Facebook Spouse pages shout praises for Rent the Runway as another good option but just beware…the likelihood of you having the same dress as someone else is high with rentals. ASOS can be a little more expensive than Lulus but also has great, expensive-looking dresses for not all that much more. Target, Bauble Bar + Forever 21 are GREAT places for accessories. Play it up + don’t be afraid to express yourself!

Just remember that while this event is one marked with tradition + honor, it is also a great time to dress up + have a blast! Get some WAFs together for a get ready pregame + enjoy!:)
