OCTOBER 7, 2017: YAY WE GOT MARRIED! OFFICIALLY A WAF.
OCTOBER 10, 2017: RETURN TO MCCHORD FROM WEDDING TRAVELS.
OCTOBER 11, 2017: PHONE CALL FROM MY HUSBAND. WE’VE BEEN REASSIGNED….
Just like that, our home of 1.5 years is no more. We knew we were leaving and where we were going, but we had to wait for official orders to know when.
Our first decision to make was what to do with our home in Tacoma, we reached out to a handful of realtors + explained our situation. We found an awesome team (more to come in a later post on that) + they made selling our home a breeze.
After that, we had to decide how much of our stuff we wanted to move on our own + how much we were going to let the movers take. Partial DITY, full DITY …anyone else think we need a post dedicated to military acronyms?! It was pretty set in stone that we would be moving some of our own things (partial DITY, want some more detail on this? Check out this post!) because we would be relocated to a training base for 3-6 months before settling at our long-term assignment.
At this point in time we had our official orders, having a date = making timeline decisions for my job, listing the house on the market/closing date + when to schedule the movers.
First thing we wanted to get off our plate was scheduling the movers, because that seems to be what everyone says takes the most coordination. This process would have to be done by your spouse BUT they can list you as a secondary contact. Doing this would allow you to be present + direct the move …even if your husband is not present (which he wasn’t in my case, so this was a HUGE benefit for us).
Moving forward, it was a matter of me starting to set aside the items we knew we wanted to move ourselves (remember my husband was out of town this whole time, so this meant a lot of FaceTime dates going through his clothes:) ). Setting aside these items made “Moving Day” a piece of cake. I was able to point them to our pile + say everything goes but these items vs. me walking around with them all day telling them what stayed + what went. This allowed me to couch chill with Jen most of the day working on this very blog 🙂
Important to note that anything of great importance to your family you should try to move yourself. If you can’t move it, take pictures of it (or any other high dollar items you’re having moved), this will help down the road if something ends up damaged by the time you get it back.
…you are officially up to date on our moving adventure! Today my husband had his fini-flight in the C-17 marking the conclusion of our time here at McChord, I promise to keep you all updated on our move from the road…Texas, we’re coming for ya!
