This is a hot take, but we’ve been told that getting things while deployed isn’t as much of a relief as you would expect, because getting mail comes with a lot of obstacles. So, instead of traditional deployment care package ideas, we wanted to share some ideas that you can get for your partner before they leave to take with them or things to plan together during and look forward to post-deployment.
Plan a trip together
This is one of our favorite things to do as a way to work together and look forward to something together. It doesn’t have to be anything overly extravagant! You set a budget (and start saving toward it!!), pick your destination, lodging, activities, etc. Make it fun and fancy, we’re talking mood boards, outfit ideas, food wants, anything goes!
Book a spa retreat
Tell us you wouldn’t love a day at the spa after being around so many other people for months on end?! A more pricey option, but one you can budget for and find some good deals on because you have the time!
Shower caddy
Not very exciting, but truly one of the most practical things you can get if your partner is going to be a walk to the shower that won’t have anywhere to set anything down kind of showering situation. Maybe it’s the Mom in us, but we really get a thrill out of knowing we got them something they’ll get a lot of use out of! THIS one is affordable, packable, and practical!
Personalized jewelry
Depending on if they can wear it or not, THIS might be a good option to pull on those heartstrings. We love that you can get it engraved with a personal message, and its subtle enough for everyday wear. A little something to remind them how much you love them every time they see it!
Journal
Personally speaking from each of our deployment experiences, we feel like we were actually able to grow CLOSER with our spouses during this time of separation. Communication is always key and we love taking this time to really reset and reestablish healthy practices that boost our marriages. We have heard incredible things about THIS marriage journal and it’s definitely one you can do while apart!
Cozy loungewear
For the times they don’t have to be in uniform and you want them to feel the comforts of home, we own and love THIS super soft tee and THESE shorts. If they’re more into joggers, we recommend THESE (and don’t just take our word for it, the reviews speak for themselves!) Be sure to email this brand directly for a super secret military discount!!
Destress roller
Listen, is this a little out there? Maybe! But while we have never personally been deployed, we have heard things…like, smelly things. And THIS just might be a little touch of normalcy that they need. Plus, anti-stress? Sounds pretty great!
Send video messages with family / friends
It’s so much easier now than it ever has been to get friends/family to send you a quick video of well wishes for your deployed service member to send via text, email, whatever! We’ve utilized this a lot in the past for holidays/milestones they’re missing (birthdays, weddings, Christmas, etc.) as a way to perk them up and see some familiar faces they haven’t been able to connect with in awhile, but you don’t need a holiday or formal event as an excuse, do it just because if you know it’ll bring a smile to their face!
