Just like any base, there are preconceived notions + while Abilene is not your big city, it is truly a gem with everything you need. The people absolutely make it what it is + the whole town is so appreciative of the military. I am a born + raised Texas girl + never thought I would have a reason to move out West, but here I am. I have only lived here for four months so still learning my way around town, but I am loving it so far + looking forward to adding more resources!

Things to know about Dyess Air Force Base

Okay y’all I have to be honest, being from Austin, arguably one of the coolest cities in Texas, I was a little bummed about moving to Abilene. That being said, I have learned to love + embrace small-town -Texas. It has been such a blessing for my husband + I our first year of marriage. We have learned to make our own fun whether that is gardening, painting, going on country drives or having front yard parties with world-class neighbors. Anywhere in town is 10 minutes from your door, there is no traffic, which is a game changer. You have the classic amenities of Starbuck’s, Chick Fil A + target without the hustle + bustle of a big town. There is a new movement in Abilene to change downtown + it has a lot of potential. New breweries + restaurants are starting to pop up + I am certain that it will continue to get better. I can’t speak highly enough of the people, they truly are the best out west!
