Welcome to Fort Cavazos, also known as the Great Place! Fort Cavazos is one of the largest military installations in the United States and is home to over 40,000 service members. This post is located in the heart of Texas and is steeped in cavalry tradition. From here you can get to the major Texas cities – Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, or Houston – in under four hours. Smoked brisket and wildflowers in the springtime are just a couple of the great things you’ll find here. (Fort Cavazos was known as Fort Hood until 2023.)

It gets REALLY HOT here in the summer. We savor the springtime – April is just about perfect – and tolerate the summer heat by finding indoor or water activities or vacationing outside of Texas.
