My experience with the Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MYCAA) has been truly life-changing. It provided me with the opportunity to pursue Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) and obtain accreditation through Yoga Alliance. Through MYCAA, I’ve embarked on a journey of personal growth and community impact!
Enrolling in YTT with Mel Marie Yoga has been a beautiful experience. Founded by Mel, a fellow military spouse, Mel Marie Yoga embodies a passion for creativity and teaching. The program’s remote nature and flexible scheduling were essential for me, given the unpredictability of military life. Monthly mentoring sessions, group workshops, and additional certifications in areas like reiki and yoga therapy have enriched my training, allowing me to tailor and fine tune my experience to my unique interests.
One of Mel Marie Yoga Training’s most appealing aspects was its business focus. I explored various yoga specialties, ultimately focusing on Yoga in Sports. This specialization equipped me with the skills to enhance athletic performance through adapted flows, meditations, and visualizations. Moreover, it enabled me to create a personal brand and documentation that can generate revenue regardless of my military journey’s direction.
Gratitude doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about this experience. Throughout my journey, I’ve felt supported and empowered by my mentors and Mel. We’ve shared laughter, tears, and moments of growth, solidifying my belief in the power of community and support. I am lucky that this is where MYCAA led me!

Who is eligible for MYCAA?
MYCAA is open to spouses of active-duty service members in pay grades E-1 to E-6, W-1 to W-2, and O-1 to O-3 who have completed high school. Spouses married to members of the National Guard and reserves in these pay grades are also eligible. Importantly, military spouses remain eligible for financial assistance even if their sponsor is promoted above the eligible ranks, provided they have an approved education and training plan in place. It’s crucial to reach out to Military One Source while your spouse is within these ranks to set your plan in motion and ensure eligibility for MYCAA benefits.
What is MYCAA?
MYCAA is a scholarship program offering up to $4,000 towards licensing, certifications, or associate degrees. While the term “scholarship” may seem misleading, if you meet the qualifications and wish to pursue an approved license, certificate, or degree at an approved school, you can access this funding without competing with others.
How to get started:
To explore career paths covered by MYCAA and verify your eligibility, contact Military One Source through their website. The agency’s dedicated staff will provide resources to help you achieve your career goals, including tools to find approved schools, map out your career path, and access career coaches for job placement assistance. They are just a phone call away and incredibly supportive.
Meet Allie
I enjoy spending my time outside, running or playing tennis, taking local yoga classes and finding the hidden gems of every city I visit. I am prior military myself and turned milspouse. This life is one of the hardest yet most rewarding things I have ever done and I am grateful for the friendships, experiences and love that have come from the WAF community.
