The least favorite season of life I’ve ever had to dress myself for was when I was breastfeeding my first child. I hated committing to an event and then just accepting I would have to bottle feed her strictly because anything I felt good in wasn’t going to allow me to nurse her. I also hated that when I searched the internet for “nursing-friendly” clothes they were all the hidden lift up or side boob zipper styles, which I didn’t want to buy to only wear for a temporary amount of time.
What I learned after breastfeeding for a year is that a lot of clothes can be “nursing-friendly” if you want them to be, you just have to think out of the box a little bit. Sure, it’s easy to have the lift up flap style for a quick nursing session BUT you’re also able to nurse in shirts that have enough room to pull them up and get baby up to boob from the bottom of the shirt and the more you practice in what you might think is unconventional style, the more conventional it becomes!
SO, with that being said I present to you my nursing-friendly style guide for Summer 2021. With the help of my WAF Momma friend, Katherine, we put together a guide that is full of cute, practical pieces that will allow you to nurse AND feel like the chic, hot Mom you are!
Wrap Front Jumpsuit: I’m a big fan of comfort and cute pieces that can be worn lounging at home but dressed up a little bit to head out on the town, you’ll find me traveling in this all summer long!
Tie Strap Dress: Faux button front BUT you can easily slide these cutie tie straps down to feed baby + look damn good while doing it!
Knit Tank: Love this beautiful color for summer and how easy it will be to pull it up or slide the straps down to feed baby!
Wrap Front Dress: Loose-fitting, flattering, nursing-friendly, and an entire outfit with one purchase…can’t go wrong with this one!
Wrap Top: This pattern, the wrap front feature for easy boob access, need I say more?
Denim Romper: I’ve seen these cute denim rompers everywhere and was so excited to see the snap front feature to make them nursing friendly…also, one purchase and you have an entire outfit, win/win.
Trapeze Top: One thing I struggle with was finding cute, trendy shirts that also allowed me to wear a nursing bra under it and this top meets ALL of those needs. Loose enough to lift up for nursing and still allows you to wear a nursing bra!
Buttoned Crop: Super trendy and super practical, easy front buttons if you prefer to use those to nurse, or the cropped style will allow for you to quickly and easily lift up to nurse, if you prefer.
Button up Blouse: This is a classic nursing-friendly top with the button front feature and this color is gorgeous for summer!
Loungewear Set: This is perfect to transition from hanging at home to pulled together enough to quickly head out of the house for lunch with a friend or to run errands. I love that the tank is loose fitting enough you can easily pull it up to nurse baby!
Cropped Henley: Told you I loved crop tops for nursing and this cropped henley is TOO GOOD for the air-conditioned places in the summer that are a little cooler.
Cropped Boho Tank: I love love love cropped shirts for breastfeeding, it’s less fabric to maneuver around + they’re extremely stylish right now, so you really can’t go wrong.
Snap Front Top: Similar in style to the button-front option, but snaps…so even easier and just as cute!
Cropped Tea: So good for nursing during the summer, so so so good. Easy to wear a nursing bra under it, lightweight enough for the summer heat and easy to pull up to get baby fed.
Wrap Front Romper: Same style as the jumpsuit, just better for those extra hot days!
Lightweight Jumpsuit: Perfectly paired with a cute nursing bralette, this will be a summer go-to for me because it’s so comfortable, but looks so pulled together!
