If you’re willing to do a little research about things to do, events happening nearby, and places to visit, there’s countless opportunities all around. You’re within driving distance of so many cities and places of interest that you’ll be hard pressed to do it all before you PCS again. If road trips aren’t your thing though, don’t worry! There’s lots of walking and hiking trails all around in addition to countless local festivals and events that happen throughout the warmer month and into December. Wright Patt. is truly a base that is what you make of it. Since moving here, we’ve discovered what a hidden gem both Wright Patt and the state of Ohio are. Sometimes you just have to dig a little to find it.
Things to know about Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
Going on walks or hikes in general is something we’ve really embraced during our time in Dayton. Coming from a place that really lacked outdoor walking areas, we were amazed at just how many parks and nature trails there were within a 30 minute drive! Even the privatized Base Housing neighborhood we live in (the Prairies) is a great option for an evening stroll. Had you told me before I moved here that we’d do the majority of our hiking in the winter though, I wouldn’t have believed you! For whatever reason we tend to hike a lot in the winter. I also learned not only how to drive in snow while here but also how to avoid all the potholes that appear out of nowhere as you’re driving down the road. Ohio might have amazing nature trails, but some of their roads could use some love. 😉
